Spirit Filled Life Part 1

Texts: Ephesians 5:17,18; Romans 12:10,11

Objective: To help you understand the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life.

Focus: Introduce the concept of being filled with the Holy Spirit on a consistent basis

Power Points

*A Spirit filled life is a life that is controlled and directed by the Holy Spirit. It is the will of God to fill you with His Spirit to the point of overflow. Romans 8:14, John 10:10

*Initial infilling of the Holy Spirit is experienced when Holy Spirit baptism is experienced. This experience is always accompanied by speaking in new tongue. Every child of God who has experienced new birth is qualified for the initial infilling of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:4, Acts 9:17

*Initial infilling of the Holy Spirit does not imply you are always filled with the Holy Spirit. Don’t live on stale manna. We are to maintain a constant experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18; Acts 4:8,31;Acts 13:9, Acts 13:52

*God desires that you maintain your spiritual fervency at all times. You must endeavor to maintain the glow of the Holy Spirit. Fervency implies intensity, passion, zeal or ardor. It is God’s plan for your life to be on fire with the Spirit. Keep the fire burning. Romans 12:11, Rev 3:15,16

4 Practical ways to maintain the glow of the Spirit

1. Spend quality time praying in the Spirit. If the initial infilling came by the way of speaking in tongues you can be sure that staying filled will require you to commit to praying in the spirit regularly. Charge up your spirit like a battery. 1 Corinthians 14:4,14; Jude 1:20.
2. Feed your spirit man with the Word to the point of overflow. This involves setting time apart to meditate study, confess and listen to the Word. Colossians 3:16, 2 Timothy 2:15
3. Maintain an atmosphere of praise and worship. Singing and praising God will literally raise the temperature of the Spirit for the move of God. Refuse the spirit of heaviness and take up the garment of praise. Ephesians 5:19, Acts 16:25, Hab 3:17,18; Isaiah 61:1-3
4. Stay in the love of God at all time. Don’t ever step out of the boundaries of God’s love. The realm of the Spirit is the realm of love. Love is the atmosphere of heaven. 1 John 4:8, Jude 1:21
