C) The Love of God In The Home

a. The Family Unit is God’s Design To establish Godliness( the knowledge of God in the earth)
i. God saw that Adam was alone and said it was not good – Genesis 2:18
1. God did not want man to be alone; self sufficient, self dependent and hence self-loving.
2. God created Eve so that Adam could have someone to devote love and affection for outside of him (Adam). Together they would create a family with children that they would express love to.
ii. God established a covenant with Abraham and called Him out because He knew he would teach his household the ways of God – Genesis 18:19
1. God is Love. The purpose of the family unit is to model the ways of God in a practical way. The way of God is the way of Love. If we are to model the ways of God in the family, then we have to model the way of Love.

2. A father who loves his family will point his children to the God who loves His people.

3. Phileo however does not meet-up to God’s standard of Love

iii. Agape – The God kind of Love. The Love that is based on the nature of God in the believer – Ephesians 5:25
1. Agape is love in spite of. It is not love because of.
2. Agape is of judgment and deliberate choice

c. Agape in the Home

ii. How to walk in Agape in the Home – I Corinthians 13:4-8

1. Don’t be focused on your own needs
2. Love is not touchy
3. Love believes the best of the other person
4. Love is not easily provoked
5. Love bears all things
