C) The Love of God In The Church

a. The Church is The Body of Christ
i. Jesus is the Head and we are the Body – Ephesians 1:22-23
ii. We are members of one Body. We are interconnected – Ephesians 4:25, Romans 12:4-9, I Corinthians 12:12

1. We are members of one another. Each person is important. Each one has a specific function in the Body
2. When one member suffers we all suffer
3. No member is to be considered less significant

iii. Jesus, the head of the Church, loves His Body. The members of the Body are supposed to love the rest of the Body – Ephesians 5:25
iv. The Corinthian Church became sick and some died because they failed to discern the Body(walk in Love) – I Corinthians 11:17-30

b. Why Should We Love our fellow Brethren
i. The Bible commands us to – I Peter 2:17, Galatians 6:10, Romans 12:9-10
ii. That is how we are recognized as believers – John 13:35

c. How Do We Love One Another
i. Without partiality or favoritism – James 2:1-5

1. Effective love requires paying attention

ii. In Deed – James 2:14-16, Luke 10:25

1. The good Samaritan loved with his time, energy and his money
2. Loving the brethren will cost us our time, energy and finances

d. Hindrances to loving the Brethren

i. Un-forgiveness, Grudge, Strife – I Peter 2:1
ii. Fear, Mistrust – I John 4:18
iii. Selfishness, Self-centeredness – I Corinthians 13:4-8
iv. Not discerning the Body, the Lone-ranger mentality – Let go of past hurts
